The museum’s collection of archaeological material primarily includes material from the excavation of a settlement of the 4500-year-old Saqqaq culture on Qeqertasussuk.
The exhibit shows a selection of the most impressive finds of the excavation.
Due to the excellent conservation conditions that the permafrozen earth layers provide, a number of well-preserved items of organic material was found.
Among the finds are sheaved knives, the oldest kamik stocking, the oldest identified piece of a drum, and the oldest moveable lard lamp.
The exhibit is supplemented with a dissemination area for kids. Here they are also presented with the carton “The first steps”.
