The shrimp production in Qasigiannguit stopped in the 1990’s. The museum’s collection regarding the shrimp fishing and production, has been designed in correlation with the township, to better conserve and remember this part of the town’s history in recent years.
The exhibit shines a light on the shrimping at Qasigiannguit from the end of the 1940’s until production closed down in the 1990’s.
The exhibit includes large artefacts such as a wheelhouse from a trawler set up to show the items and tools used in the early days of shrimping.
The exhibit gives insight into the early days of shrimping, the production and life of the factory and how this affected the towns development.
As a supplement, the museum shows an older film clip from the factory, and a newer slide presentation from the hand and machine process of peeling the shrimp.
