The peat house was built in the 1990’s by some of the youth in the town in collaboration with elders from the town.
The peat house was built from memory in peat and stone with inside cover of wooden boards.
The house has a flat roof.
The peat house was given to the museum in connection with a culture week in the summer of 1997.
The interior design is an example of a typical Greenlandic home in the time before the 2 world war – decorated with a tiled stove and a large sleeping couch.
The fixtures in the peat house are as far as possible older items.
The old stove can be fired up with coals.
On the sleeping couch, you will find modern duvets covered in bedlinen in colours from older times.
Around the peat house there’s a peat stack, a smoking oven and a ‘play’ kayak made of stones.
The peat house is placed in beautiful surroundings, a short walk from the town and is there to be used by institutions and associations and for private arrangements.
